BLACKSMITHS

William Hyatt operated the blacksmith shop south of the tracks. Children walking to school could stop and watch through the open door, as Bill fitted a heavy team with new shoes.

Thomas Rushby (Tommy) was an English smithy. He was a man of many abilities. He ably demonstrated his craft as a blacksmith, became mayor of the village and for several years, took time away from the shop to be Santa Claus at the village school Christmas concert.

SHOE REPAIR

Every village needed a skilled artisan to maintain the footware, harness and other leather equipment. Joe Stover, a versatile leather craftsman could patch shoes as well as hand stitch the parts for a horse's harness.

AUTOMOBILE REPAIR, GARAGES AND GAS STATIONS

The village garage repaired and maintained all makes and models of automobiles. The decades after W.W.I saw several garages and gas service stations located on travelled streets:-

Roy Grigg - White Rose gasoline, general automobile repairs and Hudson new car sales

Harry Frank - Specialized in servicing Model "T" Fords and installing numerous accessories on these plain, black motorized marvels. A Supertest gasoline pump eventually stood in front of his garage.

Chester Smith - This expert mechanic had been a Cadillac chauffeur-mechanic for the people who purchased Cadillac Motor vehicles. He had driven Sir . William Mulocks family around Toronto before following his vocation as a general automobile mechanic in the village.

Ed Pincombe - McCa11 Frontenac gasoline service station and garage

Wilfred Wadsworth - Mobile "Flying Horse" gasoline service station -Jack Janes and Shell eventually took over.

Alvin Tanner -General automobile repair shop

BARBER SHOPS

Gordon Richardson was the local barber before taking up the career of General Insurance agent. The village barber shop had several tonsorial artists during the decades. Barber Dyer and Seymour Anderson plied their trade in this establishment. Jack Walker came to the village and opened a barber shop in competition with the village shop.

A number of village enterprises catered to the needs of the villagers:

FRED FISHER - Operated the Commercial Hotel during the

E.J. HARDING - The local funeral director-besides supplying

HARVEY MITCHELL - Village cooperage, apple barrels

MERIT MARR - Pool Room entrepreneur

TED NICHOLS - Local milk supplier

WILLIAM W ADSWORTH - Manager of the telephone company

ERNEST SUTHERLAND - Secretary treasurer and

MRS. ROBERT GALE - Restaurateur
