PREFACE
TALES OF A VILLAGE
There are many tales that originate among the people of a village. Each generation has its own experience, happenings and situations. There are light moments, funny times, humorous
situations, sadness on occasion and serious events in every village. Many of the tales are exclusive to the area and the village people. The character of a village is found among its people and things they were involved in.
Those of former generations will recall many of the village tales, happenings during the period of the gentle society , when the whole community was acquainted and neighbours still had time to be neighbourly and friendships lasted a lifetime. Grandfathers and grandmothers entertained their grandchildren with tales of their generation and the children of the period added to the tales and lore of the community with their own exploits.
Families told tales of each generation and on occasion, some of these tales became either great happenings or the exploit of the century .
Storytellers perpetrate and embellish the tales of the people and community .The heritage of every village has been preserved by the local story teller and left for each new generation to weave into the tales of their forefathers .
It would take volumes to record all the tales or happenings, even of the smallest village. Many situations are obscure and relate only to individual families; some events are best forgotten; humour must never invade privacy and to slander the character of a person of another generation who is no longer among the living is not worthy of literature that will possibly be read by many future generations.
